Part-Time Cleaner – Permanent Position

• Schedule: Monday – Friday (Hours to be negotiated)

Maromaku School is seeking an honest, reliable, and hardworking individual to join our team as a permanent, part-time School Cleaner. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our staff, students, and visitors. 

Position Overview
Type: Permanent, Part-Time 
Hours: 6.15 hours per school week. 
Schedule: 4.15-5.30pm Monday to Friday (Term time only; hours do not apply during school holidays). 
Remuneration: $24.66 per hour, in accordance with the NZEI Caretakers and Cleaners Collective Agreement. 
Responsible to: The Principal. 

Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will look after the daily and periodic maintenance of our school buildings, including: 

Daily Tasks:

• Vacuuming the staff room, main entrance, hallway, classrooms, and library, as well as emptying all rubbish bins.
• Mopping and sanitising all toilet facilities (including the Hall toilets), cleaning hand basins, wiping staff room surfaces, and cleaning high-traffic windows and doors; mopping vinyl classroom areas. 

Fortnightly Tasks: Dusting ledges, sills, and skirtings, and removing cobwebs within school buildings. 

Weekly / As-Required Tasks: Mopping vinyl classroom areas and replenishing hygiene supplies (toilet paper, soap, towels). 

 

Person Specification
We are looking for someone who demonstrates the following qualities:

• Punctual, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• A respectful team player who interacts positively with staff, students, and the wider community.
• Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality within the school environment.
• Please Note: In accordance with the Education Act and the Children's Act, the successful applicant will be required to undergo and pass a satisfactory safety and police vetting check before employment is finalised. Parental consent is required for applicants under the age of 16 years old.
